Love has gone... [S-a dus amorul...] - Mihai Eminescu

The love has gone, a dearest friend
Who cared for you and I
So, to my songs I put an end
And I tell all, goodbye.

Oblivion, with its cold hand,
Will shut them in a chest,
And on my lips they'll never stand
For in my mind they'll rest.

So many whispers of a spring,
So many stars that fall
And such a love with broken wing
I've buried in them all!

From what abyss, from what frontier
They rose into my heart!
How many tears I've shed, my dear,
On them, right from the start!

They came out hard, I don't know how,
From my tremendous sore
And very much I'm sorry now
That I can't suffer more!

For you don't want to show your face,
My light, my living breath,
With your dark eyes, so full of grace,
Which can arise from death!

And with your smile, shy and supreme,
With looks as sharp as knife,
To turn my life into a dream,
My dream into a life.

To have the feeling that you grow
When moon shines like the sun
As in those stories we all know:
A thousand nights and one.

It was a mystic dream for sure
And gentle for the eye
Too beautiful and much to pure,
That's why it had to die.

You seemed an angel, bright and glad,
And woman much more less,
That's why the happiness I had
Was meant to end, I guess.

Because we were too lost in it,
Its charm was too profound,
We left our God behind a bit
And everything around.

And maybe in a world unclean
There isn't enough space
For such a holy luck and scene,
Which hides the sorrow's face!
